cracked the clues all done and dusted

With all the puzzle pieces found in a little over two week's time, it's now that we breakdown all the clues and share how you could have solved them. And next time, how you might gain an advantage to find a prize! This is a very long post with very difficult explanations. If something still does not make sense, please let us know and we will do our best to update the details for you.

Some points to note on the clue breakdowns:

  1. Majority of the clues were somehow numbered 1 through 6
  2. Using that framework, 1 was North, 6 was South
  3. Streets and or landmarks were mentioned in code or other to surround or direct
  4. It's not our fault if you couldn't figure these out
  5. The 6 alpha-numeric code at the bottom of each clue meant nothing (below). Adsy just mashed the keyboard and then split it into 6 to throw you all off. You could tell it meant nothing because it was included only after the <<< END section.
  6. We ran everything through multiple AI services to check how easy it was to figure out

<<< END

Brewery & Gift Locations

When placing the clues in breweries and the puzzle pieces, we used a navigation tool called What 3 Words. Now is a good time to point out that if you're ever in an emergency, using what3words, or Google's own Plus Codes can really make sure help gets exactly to you, as maps in general can sometimes be incorrect (this is not emergency advice). We referenced both of these tools, but mainly what3words to lock in the location. That all being said, the words in these below links should be familiar to anyone who decoded a message or two throughout the month.

Clues Within Each Brewery

The brewery clues were important to have, but only helped to speed up the process of finding the items. Most early clues were designed to get you to the brewery, find the clue, and then interpret it to find the puzzle piece. Over the course of the clues, multiple words were mentioned for you to find.

In the below clues, these are numbered based on the phone number, not North to South. It never mattered any though. because on each clue in each venue, there were two pieces of information. There was a QR code, and a phone number. The phone number needed to be read as +# (the paragraph relating to that venue's clue), and the following numbers to be used to count within the paragraph to collect anywhere from 3-4 numbers.

The QR Code directed you to a blog post that we published on the 6th of June at 6pm ( we are Carbon 6...). Within that blog post you needed to use the phone number to get the information you wanted.

If you randomly saw this media in a brewery you might overlook it, but looking closely at the hours for the service, it was Mon - Wed & Fri @ 7pm local, the times that we posted the clues. Are you starting to hate us yet? Sorry...

Solution

For these clues, this will point to the exact location of the item from the very start. We wanted to be factual that from the very first clue, you were able to walk up to the item directly and pick it up. From top to bottom and all around. The clues are arranged in North to South, but flipped around in reverse. You needed to reverse each paragraph.

Using what3words, if you took the words before each capitalised word (tip of the cap), you would get the brewery location, and the prize location. Granted this was difficult and a stretch, but if you worked it out, you would be in front of everyone.

The clues are all contained within two sentences, with the first sentence being the brewery, the second the gift. The sentences are then arranged in order from North to South as they would display on the map. Highlighted Noosa Hinterland Brewery's clue as an example.

Clue #2 - Murder By Numbers

Clue 2 Social Post

I tried to solve a murder just by counting up the clues,

But somehow every number led me straight back to the news.

One, two, three, the body count began to rise,

Four, five, six, I ran out of good alibis.

By seven, eight, nine, I’d lost my moral compass too,

And realised even numbers make a killer out of you.

Solution

For these clues, we’re using a whole bunch of numbers. Initially we are starting out with the numbers as words from the Swahili language, along with some mathematics. This does nothing except establish the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. It should be noted that the clues are numbers 1 through 6, North to South (123=N2S). This ongoing consistency will open opportunities for more clues.

The clues are written in the following formula:

123=N2S+?time+1000+NoGo1st+PCTot+FlipHere

Swahili Text mathematically (123) = in order (for N2S) + (?time) Suburb Population in 2021 Census from Wikipedia, Distance as the crow flies from Carbon 6 (Murder) in KM, and then the 1st bus code that stops at the closest bus stop. In brackets is the post code of the suburb added up, and then the >< means to flip the numerical address of the brewery, so 34 becomes 43 etc.

Clue #3 - Long Time Between Drinks

Solution

For this clue we’ve alphabetised the name of the brewery and a beer that is included in their Untapped listings. Each line has then been rearranged alphabetically and in order from North to South. The ABV of  the beer is the numerical number on the line of the code. The second : is after the letter separating the brewery from the drink name, and the correct number of that letter needed.

Solution

This clue is all about locations of the breweries and locations of the prizes. Deciphering this will be from the result of using all the available information. The number after the “Carbon” title needs to be divided by how many years ago the video was posted. They can then be rearranged into numerical order (rearrange the past), again implementing the 1 - 6 layout used in previous clues. The streets surrounding the breweries are not always directly mentioned, but some are. In one case (48), the uploader of the video is the name of the streets.

Clue #6 - Back To The Future

Clue 6 Social Post

We googled the truth and crowned it divine,

Counted the nation one checkbox at a time.

Old timers chuckled, “the map’s still upside down,”

While numbers moonwalked through a paper-clip town.

The footnotes escaped in a filing conga,

And history pressed “undo”… then thought, “nah, longer.”

<<< END

Solution

This clue uses elements from the clue given on #2. The start of the clue is all about the census in 2021 recording the population in the suburb where the prizes are hidden. If you have worked out the suburb, a quick history check on Wikipedia will show you the population, and within the history, break down the clue.

*21=1756 is kinda tall if you’re Kabi. Around since the good ol’ ‘30’s, Mervyn took us on! Kabi is the language where Cooran is named from. In 1930, Mervyn Alfredson built the joinery in which the brewery now lives.

*21=3355 is like Canberra, wedged halfway. Feeling kind of low, but I’m way ahead in the air! Marcoola is so named because it is between Maroochydore and Coolum. David Low Way runs through it and you can access the Sunshine Coast Airport.

*21=16488 has me green with envy, but wattle you do? Shiver me timbers, it was in the 1870’s! The aboriginal word burpengar means “place of the green wattle”. In the 1870’s when Europeans settled there, it was mainly a timber industry.

*21=6978 I needed to change around 1885. I bet you’ll knot be able to work it out! Stafford used to be called Happy Valley before it was changed in 1885-1886. On the coast of arms for Brisbane is a Stafford Knot.

*21=14036 is it bread, fruit, mud or crab? You can’t win ‘em all though I guess! Wynnum likely derives from a Durubalic word meaning pandanus palm (aka 'breadfruit') or mud crab.

*21=7445 and had the voice here in 1988 for some reason? Something about ice and the US! In 1988, John Farnham filmed the music video to Two Strong Hearts in front of the Miami Ice factory. Miami was named after Miami Shores in Florida.

But...

Think of the breweries in this order:
1 - Noosa Hinterland Brewing
2 - Young Giants Brewing
3 - Buddy Brewing
4 - Happy Valley Brewing
5 - Hudson Brewing
6 - Padre Brewing

Solution

This set of clues gives a very good location of the items and the venues to visit. The small verses mean nothing in the clue, except for the second line of captilised items. The numerical word is the number of the brewery (which should be able to be worked out). The clues are grouped into the location hiding spots, so Signs, Trees and Chairs, as specified by the YouTube videos. The website links are named for streets and structures near the items.

1 & 4 - Queen’s Table and Assembly Point - Noosa Hinterland's prize was on the corner of Queen and Tableland between two signs. Happy Valley's prize was behind an Emergency Assembly Point sign.

2 & 3 - North Complex and ANZAC, Bruce and Arthur - Young Giant's prize was hidden in a tree of the car park of the North Shore Sports Complex. Buddy Brewing's prize was hidden across the road from the ANZAC memorial.

5 & 6 - Adam Moreton and Dawn Albion - Hudson Brewing's prize was hidden underneath a chair overlooking Moreton Bay near Adam St. Padre Brewing's prize was hidden underneath a bus stop seat on the corner of Dawn and Albion streets.

If you look at all the other clues, these words are mentioned multiple times, and offer people to make a link.

If you scrolled right to the bottom of that blog post, you would find the list of breweries in order for you to work out the rest.

So look back at the posts, and see with a fresh eye.

The answers were there, just hidden in time.

The King knows what the Royals are doing. MR8C+CG means you try something Crushable on three for the past, but we’re tapped out. Look out at the park, for you’re likely to miss it if you don’t look up. It would be wise to take some scissors.

Give it a kick, just aim for the true North. 93RM+7X gives you heaps of Liquid Sunshine on tap, because a long time between drinks just does it all. Alex Honnold would scoff at this challenge, but take care on the rise, and go careful to cut.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers said it best when they said “I don’t want to feel like I did that day”, so it’s not there, but close. RXWG+H4 is a sexy blonde, but falls under the taps. We will remember them, as we look through.

The wolves howl but whatever, it’s not the Hamptons so we let it go. H2J7+XG is a little bit, how ya going… But How Ya Like Me Now trio? It’s 6 again, just don’t miss the assembly or you will be late and The countback would be disastrous.

Adsy’s involved but not like you think. H558+PR will lead you to the under-tapped Armageddon, but three’s a crowd they say. If the tide’s in or out it won’t matter, Adsy has Tom under control, despite the burning sensation.

Adsy’s here again, but so far out he’s a nobby idiot. WCPM+9R is not as far as we go, but it’s basically fuzzy logic when you put the three together. Overall, a sticky situation but we’re under control until the dawn comes.

This clue is an ultimate mixture of being able to discern information from previous clues, put together with some Google use, and reaffirms extra information to find the prize. The line "This is not a mistake" is to inform you we meant to pout the poem inside the START >>> section so it forms part of the actual clue.

The King knows what the Royals are doing. MR8C+CG means you try something Crushable on three for the past, but we’re tapped out. Look out at the park, for you’re likely to miss it if you don’t look up. It would be wise to take some scissors.

Noosa Hinterland Brewing is on King street. All the surrounding streets are royal names, Queen, Edward, etc. Looking at Clue 3, the beer they brew is Cooran Crusher. The prize is hidden in between the scenic lookout signs, rather high.

Give it a kick, just aim for the true North. 93RM+7X gives you heaps of Liquid Sunshine on tap, because a long time between drinks just does it all. Alex Honnold would scoff at this challenge, but park on the back, and go careful to cut.

Young Giants Brewing is the only brewery in the area. Across the road is a soccer park, North Shore Community Centre. Looking at Clue 3, the beer they brew is Liquid Sunshine. This prize is hidden in a tree in the back car park. You do need to climb the tree to find the prize.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers said it best when they said “I don’t want to feel like I did that day”, so it’s not there, but close. RXWG+H4 is a sexy blonde, but falls under the taps. We will remember them, as we look through.

Buddy Brewing is close to the river. From the ANZAC memorial and looking through the glass panel that says We Will Remember Them, you can view the tree that holds the prize. Clue 3, they brew Station Road Blonde.

The wolves howl but whatever, it’s not the Hamptons so we let it go. H2J7+XG is a little bit, how ya going… But How Ya Like Me Now trio? It’s 6 again, just don’t miss the assembly or you will be late and The countback to three would be disastrous.

Happy Valley Brewing is on Wolverhampton st. In clue 3, they brew a beer called How Ya Like Me Now. Nearby at Gibson Park, they play rugby league. The prize is hidden behind the sign that says Emergency Assembly Point in The Gibson carpark.

Adsy’s involved but not like you think. H558+PR will lead you to the under-tapped Armageddon, but three’s a crowd they say. If the tide’s in or out it won’t matter, Adsy has Tom under control, despite the burning sensation.

Hudson Brewing is close by, and it helps that there is an Adam street to play off with Adsy. From clue 3, their beer Armageddon is delicious. The prize is hidden under the seat while looking out over Moreton Bay, near a sign that says Tom Burns Place.

Adsy’s here again, but so far out he’s a nobby idiot. WCPM+9R is not as far as we go, but it’s basically fuzzy logic when you put the three together. Overall, a sticky situation but we’re under control until the dawn comes.

Padre Brewing is also near and Adam street to play off, and also nearby that is a Nobby street name. The play on the words so far out is because Adam and Nobby streets are outside of Albion and Craft, but link up with Dawn. This prize is taped underneath the bus stop.

Game Ends

At this point, all pieces of the puzzle had been found and there were to be no more clues. However, we did write one more, keeping the game fluid depending on how easy we needed to make the last week.

Clue #10 - It's Just Mathematics

Clue 10 Social Post

Are you good with numbers? Get the calculator to work out your radius of search zone. Looks easy from the start, but as all these record holders would tell you, there’s a lot to go with this result. How fast can you figure this out?

Only 6 more clues to go!

START >>>

Ahh Rio, the place of dreams and record runs. Put yourself in the running shoes of Wayde van Niekerk to get to the prize. At this pace, you’d be on the podium anywhere between 45.72 s and 59.17 s!

Even the fastest runner ever in the 100m can’t shorten this gap. Get ready to Bolt to the gift, but which way is actually better to choose? He’s not taking records here, but you’ll be on top between 52.02 s and 2 m 25.62 s. Ouch!

Ladies, you’re no slouch but this also isn’t a marathon! Spare a thought for Ruth Chepng'etich, who would probably hate these distances. In any case, she’d be a winner between 40.08 s and 53.55 s.

Erin Grindstaff doing it tough with 45kg on her back for a quick 10k! Holds a very unique record, while doing a run for fun. Get on top between 6 m 15.3 s or 11m 30.1 s.

Time to take to the hurdles in a spritzy 400m, with a prize that is the furthest from a brewery as the crow flies! But, that’s still for you to figure out. Get a gold medal between 1 m 50.02 s and 2 m 39.64 s.

Not so much running, but a lofty record nonetheless with Alex Honnold free soloing a building! If he is not climbing then maybe it’d be faster, but what’s the point in that? With him standing on top of the world, you could too between 2 m 08.1 s and 2 m 58.53 s.
